Capitol Building Company is delighted to be the official Builder of the St. Jude Dream Home Program in Idaho. We have produced four beautiful homes in several of our premier communities with donated land, labor, and materials and then raffled the finished home off for $100 tickets. People from all over Idaho and the United States have supported our efforts and we have been successful in raising over 2 million dollars which went directly to patient care at St. Jude. This is particularly exciting considering that 84.9% of every dollar raised goes to the current or future needs of the hospital (one of the highest ratios of any American charity).
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital was founded in 1962 by entertainer Danny Thomas who felt that “no child should die in the dawn of life”. The cure rate at that time for acute lymphoblastic leukemia which is the most common form of childhood cancer was 4%. Today, the cure rate for this once deadly disease is over 85% thanks to the research and treatment protocols pioneered at St. Jude. The world renowned teams of scientist and physicians on campus at St. Jude have developed research findings that are shared willingly with doctors and teachers all over the globe. The hospital has now treated more than 20,000 children that have been stricken by catastrophic childhood illnesses. This represents kids from all 50 US states and over 60 foreign countries. The daily operating cost for the hospital is now past the 1 million dollar mark and yet, St. Jude has never turned a patient away for their inability to pay. Capitol Building Company owner, Larry Ralston said it best. “In my mind there is simply no better charity than one that gives life to a child in a hopeless situation, and no institution does it better than St. Jude!” |
